Taxes can be mailed in with a check, walked into the City’s customer service Hub to pay by cash, check or credit card or by phone with a credit card by calling our vehicle use tax line at: 309-434-2665.

The ST-556 form is completed by the dealer to submit your 6.25% sales tax to the state. The dealer should give you the blue copy of this form. If you do not have the form, please call your dealer to get a copy for your records.

Local dealers are required to collect the tax at the time of purchase but of any item requiring a title. Ccollection for out-of-town dealers is discretionary. 

 
Submitting your tax form also requires the submission of your state sales tax form ST-556 which facilitates filling out the City form. 

If you are a resident of Bloomington, and have purchased a titled (i.e., auto, motorcycle, trailer) you are liable to pay VUT. 

Purchasing a car out of town or out of state does not dismiss that tax due.

If you purchased your car through a local dealer in the Bloomington/Normal area, then it’s likely this tax has already been collected and remitted to the City. 

Please review your sales documents or call your dealer to determine if this tax has already been paid.   

**This should not be confused with the State’s sales tax of 6.25%.
